Captions That Help a Buyer Decide

KinkCoach · · 3 min read

A strong photo draws a buyer in, but it rarely closes the sale on its own. The caption underneath does the quieter work. It tells people what they cannot see, settles small doubts and gives them a reason to choose this item over the next one.

Start with what it is

Open with a plain description. Colour, material, size and condition are the details buyers look for first. A caption that begins with these facts saves people from having to message you, and many will not bother to ask before moving on.

Add one personal detail

After the facts, add a single line that only you could write. How long it was worn, why you love it, or the kind of day it suits. One honest detail makes a listing feel like it belongs to a real person rather than a catalogue.

Answer the obvious question

Think about the question you are asked most often and answer it in the caption. If people always ask about postage times or packaging, say it here. Every question you answer in advance is one less reason to hesitate.

Keep it short

Three or four sentences is usually enough. Long captions get skimmed, and the important part can be missed. If you have more to say, put it in your shop policy or profile and keep the caption focused on the item itself.

End with a gentle next step

Finish by letting the buyer know what to do if they want something slightly different, such as a custom request or a matching set. A friendly invitation often turns a browser into a conversation, and a conversation into an order.
