Choosing Which Platforms to Quit

Diversifying is good advice that most people over apply. Being on nine platforms and earning from two is not diversification, it is eight jobs and one income. At some point the honest move is to quit some.

Measure earnings per hour, not per platform

Revenue by platform is the wrong number because it ignores what each one costs you in time. A platform earning three hundred a month for two hours a week beats one earning six hundred for twelve. Work it out per platform properly, including messages, listing upkeep and the fiddly bits. The ranking usually surprises people.

Separate dead from dormant

Some platforms earn nothing because they are wrong for you. Others earn nothing because you have not touched them in five months. Those need different decisions. Give a dormant one a deliberate four weeks of proper effort before you judge it. If it still does not pay, then it is dead, and you have an answer rather than a guess.

Keep a floor, whatever the numbers say

Never cut down to one platform, however good the arithmetic looks. Two active plus your own storefront is a sensible floor. The reason is not revenue, it is survival. Cutting to one because it is currently the best earner is how people end up with nothing when it has a bad quarter. That is exactly the failure described in the one platform trap.

Leave properly

Do not just stop logging in. Post that you are moving, say where you are going, leave the profile up with a pointer for a few months, and move any regulars personally before you go quiet. An abandoned profile with your name on it and unanswered messages is worse than no profile at all.

Reinvest the hours deliberately

The point of quitting is the time, and time reclaimed without a plan just evaporates. Decide now where those hours go: more content, better messaging with your regulars, or building your own storefront so the next cut is easier.
