Describing Each Photo in a Few Words
Most shop builders let you add a short written description to each photo. It is often called alt text, and many sellers leave it empty. Filling it in takes seconds and quietly helps your shop in two ways.
Why it matters
Some buyers use screen readers, which read the page aloud. Without a description, a photo is just silence to them. Search engines also read these words to understand what your listing shows, which can help the right people find it.
Say what is in the picture
Describe the photo plainly, as if telling someone who cannot see it. Black lace thong laid flat on white sheets is far more useful than photo one or item. Name the item, the colour and anything that sets it apart.
Keep it short
One clear sentence is enough. You are not writing the listing again, just giving each picture a label that makes sense on its own.
Make each one different
If you have several photos of the same item, describe what each one shows. Front view, close up of the lace trim, label showing the size. That way every photo adds something.
Avoid stuffing it with keywords
It can be tempting to cram in every search term you can think of. Resist it. A description that reads like a list of keywords is unhelpful to someone listening to the page, and search engines are good at spotting it. Write for a person first, and the search benefit follows naturally.
Make it a habit
Add the description when you upload the photo, while it is in front of you. Done every time, it becomes part of listing rather than another job to catch up on later.
