Writing a Shop Bio That Sounds Like You

KinkCoach · · 3 min read

Buyers read your bio to answer one question: is this a real person I would be happy to buy from? A long list of everything you offer rarely answers it. A few honest lines usually do.

Start with who you are

One or two sentences about you, in your own words. Not your life story, just enough to sound like a person rather than a shop. The way you would introduce yourself to someone friendly is about right.

Say what you make

Name the two or three things you are best known for. Buyers who want something else will find it in your listings, but leading with your strengths helps the right people recognise you quickly.

Give a reason to trust you

How long you have been selling, how quickly you post, how carefully you pack. One concrete detail is worth more than a paragraph of promises.

Keep the rules short

If you have a few firm rules, state them plainly and kindly. A bio that is mostly rules feels cold, so save the detail for your shop policy.

Read it out loud

If it does not sound like something you would say, change it until it does. Buyers can tell the difference between a bio written by a person and one copied from somewhere else.

Update it now and then

When your shop changes, your bio should too. Check it every few months so it still describes what you actually sell today.
