Writing Care Instructions for Each Item

KinkCoach · · 3 min read

A buyer who has just paid for something special usually has one more question once it arrives: how do I look after this? If the answer is not on the listing, they will either message you or guess, and a wrong guess in the washing machine can turn a happy customer into a disappointed one.

Keep it to a few lines

Care notes do not need to be long. Two or three short sentences covering washing, drying and storage are enough for most items. A buyer should be able to read them in the time it takes to open the parcel.

Be specific about materials

Lace, latex, leather, silk and cotton all need different handling. Name the material and give the advice that suits it, such as hand wash in cool water, dry flat away from heat, or wipe clean and store away from sunlight.

Say what to avoid

Sometimes the most useful line is a warning. No tumble drying, no ironing over the print, keep away from oils. One clear instruction about what not to do prevents the most common accidents.

Put it in the same place every time

Choose one spot in your listing layout for care notes, such as the last line of the description, and stick to it. Regular buyers will learn where to look, and the consistency makes your shop feel organised.

Add a card to the parcel

If you have time, slip a small printed card in with the order repeating the care advice. It is a thoughtful touch, it keeps the instructions with the item long after the listing is forgotten, and it reminds the buyer who they bought from when they come to shop again.
