Platform Strategy

How Many Platforms Is Too Many

Adding a platform feels free. It is another shop window, another audience, another chance. The cost shows up later, and it does not show up as money.

Each one is a whole copy of the work

Listings, messages, reposting, keeping the profile alive. That is not a fraction of the effort you already spend, it is close to all of it again. Two platforms is roughly double the work, and four is where most people quietly stop doing any of it properly.

Judge them on revenue, not on presence

Look at what each one actually paid you in the last three months. Sellers are usually shocked to find one platform is most of the income and two others have produced almost nothing while consuming the same daily attention. Presence feels productive. Only one of those columns pays.

The dead platform is worse than no platform

A profile you last touched in March is doing active harm. Anyone who finds it sees stale listings and an absent seller, and concludes you are gone. If you are not going to work it, close it or say clearly where you actually are.

Two is usually the honest number

One where the money is, one that reduces your dependence on the first. That combination gives you income and insurance without turning your week into maintenance. More than that needs either real revenue on each or tooling that does the repetition for you.

Add slowly, drop quickly

Give a new platform a fixed trial with a number attached before you start. If it has not hit that by the end, stop. Sellers are quick to add and extremely slow to remove, which is how a week fills up with work that stopped paying months ago.

The aim is not to be everywhere. It is to be properly present where it pays and honest about the rest.
