Keeping Your Photos Consistent Across Listings

Scroll through most new shops and every photo looks different: one on the bed, one on the floor, one by the window at noon and one under a yellow lamp at midnight. Each picture might be fine on its own, but together they make the shop look thrown together. A consistent look does the opposite. It tells a buyer that one careful person runs this shop.

Pick one background

Choose a plain surface you can use every time: a sheet of card, a piece of fabric, a clean bit of floor. Something neutral lets the item stand out and hides nothing about where you live. Keep it folded away between shoots so it stays clean and you can always find it.

Fix your light

Daylight from a window is the easiest and the most flattering, so shoot at roughly the same time of day where you can. If you shoot in the evening, use the same lamp in the same place each time. The colour of the light matters as much as the brightness, because a buyer wants to know what colour the item really is.

Use the same framing

Decide on a main shot and repeat it: the item centred, the same distance away, the same angle. Your first photo is what shows in the grid, so when every first photo follows the same pattern, the whole shop reads cleanly.

Add detail shots after

Once the main shot is done, add close ups of labels, fabric or wear. These can vary, because they are there to answer questions rather than to make the shop look tidy.

Why it pays

A consistent shop is easier to browse, easier to trust and easier to remember. Buyers start to recognise your photos before they see your name, and that recognition is worth more than any single perfect picture.
