Proving You Are Real to a Nervous Buyer

Sooner or later a new buyer will ask you to prove you are real before they pay. They have heard about fake shops, stolen photos and sellers who take the money and vanish, and they want to know you are not one of them. It can feel like an accusation, but most of the time it is simply a nervous first purchase.

Treat it as a fair question

A buyer who checks before paying is usually a careful buyer, and careful buyers often become regulars. Answer calmly and without taking offence. A short, friendly reply does more to reassure them than a long defence ever will.

Point to what already proves it

The best proof is the history you have already built. Reviews from past buyers, how long your shop has been open, a verified badge on the platform and a steady run of listings all say more than anything you could send privately. Point them to those first.

If they want more, keep it on your terms

Some sellers are happy to send a quick photo holding a note with the buyer's name and the date, taken in the same style as their listings. If you do, keep it to what you would already show in public: no face if you do not show your face, nothing in the background that could identify where you live, and nothing sent outside the platform.

Know when the request is the warning sign

Proof should never mean your real name, your address, your other social accounts or a video call before any money has changed hands. A buyer who pushes for any of those, or who wants proof and then still will not pay through the platform, is not reassuring themselves. They are testing how much you will give away. It is fine to say no and let the sale go.

Save your answer

Once you have a reply you are happy with, keep it somewhere you can paste it from. The question will come up again, and a ready answer means you can reassure the next nervous buyer in seconds instead of starting from scratch each time.
