When a Buyer Asks You to Take It Off Platform
It usually arrives politely. They would rather use another app, it is easier, the fees are silly, they will pay you direct. Sometimes the person asking is completely genuine. The problem is that you cannot tell which one you have, and the cost of being wrong sits entirely on your side.
What you actually give up
Off platform you lose the payment protection, the message history and any route to escalate if it goes wrong. If someone pays you and then reverses it, there is no record anyone will look at. You also lose the boring administrative benefit of having every order in one place when you come to do your books.
The fee argument is usually the weakest one
Buyers who raise fees are rarely trying to save you money. If the fee genuinely bothered them they would be negotiating the price, not the venue. Treat it as what it is, a reason offered rather than the reason held, and answer the request rather than the argument.
Have the sentence ready
Improvising this at midnight is how sellers end up agreeing to things they did not want. Decide the wording once. Something like: I keep everything here so we both have a record and you are covered if anything goes wrong. That is friendly, it gives them a reason that benefits them, and it does not invite a debate.
Watch what happens next
A reasonable buyer says fine and carries on. Someone who pushes twice after a clear answer is telling you how the rest of the order would have gone. That is useful information and it arrived before you had done any work, which is the cheapest possible time to learn it.
Where a small exception is fine
Sending a delivery update or answering a quick question elsewhere is not the same as moving the money. The line worth holding is the payment and the agreement. Keep those where they are recorded and the rest matters much less.
The buyers worth keeping are not the ones who need you to be unprotected. Saying no to this costs you almost nothing and saves you the one order you would still be thinking about a year later.
